Outside The Box

I'm trying to design my own quilt using these placemats as inspiration. These placemats were embroidered by my father and mother when they were first married in the mid 1940's. They didn't have much money for entertainment, so this is what they did in the evening. (This was in the days before TV.)

So here is the design, pretty simple. I thought I needed to keep it simple for my first time out. I did this yesterday afternoon. Tonight I have been working on the number of pieces and the seam allowance.
