Beautiful Day

It was a beautiful day in more ways than one.  First, the weather was amazing.  I found this little bloom, so I know Spring is on the way!

Second, I finished my March UFO for Connie's Game!  And my husband served as the quilt stand again.  Thanks!

My original goal had been to make the 50 some blocks I needed to complete the quilt.  I did that the first weekend, so I decided to take it to the finish line.  So glad I did.  It's such a good feeling to have another one done.

Jackpot

I feel like I kind of hit the jackpot last night when I decided on the fabric for my binding.  I know that sounds silly, but I had a piece of fabric that I have shuffled back and forth between my blue fabric bin and the black fabric bin.
The fabric is either a really dark blue or midnight blue or a blue/black.  I was really planning on using black to bind this quilt, just like I did the other one.  But when I pulled this fabric out of the bin, I knew it was the one.  It doesn't play well with other fabrics so this way it can be a star in it's own right.  I'll be saving the rest of it in my bin marked for bindings.  What a perfect solution for this fabric!

I'm going to sew the binding down so I can do the hand stitching while watching TV tonight.

Change

You may or may not use Google reader, I do use it.  So I was very disappointed when I received the message that Google had decided to do away with it.  I follow most of my blogs in reader.

With that in mind, I added the "Follow by E-mail" option on the side of my blog.
That way you will be able to receive notice of each update to my blog.

Progress has been made on my March UFO for Connie's Game.  I'm ready to start binding as it is all quilted!

Busy Week!

It's been a busy week!  I've only been home one night.  But, I was still able to get some sewing in and my string quilt top is all put together.  I hope to  get it quilted soon so you can see it. (I have to have it done by March 31st.)  I know it won't look too much different then the last one I did.  Here's a picture of it:

Summer sunshine!  Oh how I am longing for nicer weather!  It's cold tonight and snow is possible, not good weather for taking pictures.   But I promise to take a picture of the finished quilt.

Happy National Quilting Day

Happy National Quilting Day!

I have been sewing this week.  See?  March's UFO for Connie's Game.

I also have been spending time cleaning and trying to reorganize my sewing space.  I don't know how it happens, but boxes, bins, fabrics and projects get scattered all over my room.  Time to sort them out.  I also did some sweeping of the floor as there were threads everywhere!    With it being a little more clean, I hope to get more done this week!

Enjoy your day!

Another Sew(Snow) Day

Yesterday , Sunday, the weather people said we were going to get rain mixed with snow, turning to snow.  Accumulation of about 1 inch.  Well guess again!  We received about 9 inches of snow!

Saturday, quilt day, I had taken this picture.  A sure sign of Spring, daffodils.

By Sunday afternoon, we had this:
 And this:

So, it became a sew(snow) day for me.  I finished the backing for this pillow.

At a Quilt Guild meeting last Fall, I brought home this top, batting and backing to quilt.  I quited it and got the binding finished.

A great day!

If I Counted Right...

If I counted right, I have all of my string blocks done!  I hope to get them set out and will start putting the top together.

Saturday was quilt day and here is a picture of a little quilt I worked on.

It's called "Basket Weave".  I started it last month and quilted at home on my Bernina.  Took it back to put the binding on. But I wish I would have put the binding on at home.  My little Featherweight machine that I take with me, didn't like doing that.  It came out OK, but I learned something new.  Bind at home!  Started another little quilt, same pattern, different fabrics.  Love my Featherweight for piecing!

It's snowing this morning.  Lots of wind and snow swirling around.  A great day to sew!  But what day isn't, right?

String Blocks

I've been working on my string blocks for this month's UFO and I found a great idea from Michele, owner of "Quilting Gallery" web site.  Check it out, the link is on the right hand side of my blog.  Any way, she was making strips of fabric from her little bits.  What a great idea!  I have lots of little string pieces leftover from the bigger strings.  And face it, you can only use 2 of those on the corners of each block.  So the tin I kept the little bits in was overflowing.  So I made a strip and used it in my block.

Pretty cute, huh?  I thought so.  Now, I have to be careful and not collect too many of those little bits as they could take over.  Kind of like the string bin has......

Number Nine

So the new project for Connie's Game is number nine.  You can still join in on the fun.  Check out the link to see how.

My number nine reads "string blocks for twin quilt".  I'm thinking I'm going to do more than just the blocks.  I want to take this quilt to the finish line.  I did work on some squares last night.  I have 140 blocks done.  On my note from the last quilt I made like this, I show I need 192 blocks.   So 52 more blocks.   I made 3 more blocks last night.

So off to do some sewing and more cutting of strips.  Or I may have to make some fabric using the little bits sewn together and cut into strips.  My little tin that I keep the tiny bits in, is overflowing.
