Deadlines Are Good!

Deadlines are good!  Without a deadline I doubt I would be done with this pillow.

The front.

The back.
I had two squares that wouldn't fit on the front.  So I put my signature block and the block with the date on the pillow back.  It worked out well!  Thank you Jean for your help in figuring out the backing of the pillow!

Thank you Country Threads for having Connie's Game.  I'm lovin' all the finishes for this year!  And boy, do those deadlines work!

ACK!!!!!

ACK!!!

I found a sandwich bag on my cutting table with some squares for B & H's wedding album top.   I thought it was weird that I had to use so many blank squares to finish this.  I don't think this is going to be done by tomorrow.  Sigh...

It's raining today, a good day to sit and rip!

Top Is Done

The top for B & H's wedding album quilt top is done.

I was thinking this might make a nice pillow since it measures 26 inches by 26 inches.

Wow!

Wow!  It's been two weeks since I posted anything.  The time has flown by.  As you saw by the previous post, I finished the graduation quilt.  We have had family staying with us the last two weekends, which is why it's been hard to post.  My sewing room is one hot mess!
Stuff stacked on the cutting table, under the table and beside the table.  Ugh!  You can see my May UFO on the left side of the table.  Tomorrow is the last day of school and I will be out for the summer.  Good thing I have until Friday to get my UFO done.  Hope to catch up on some projects.  Oh, and some cleaning too.

The Graduation Quilt

My nephew graduated from High School and this is the quilt I made for him.  He has joined the Marines and will be leaving for Boot Camp this Fall.  We're so proud of him!  Congratulations!Posted by Picasa

Done! Done! Done!

IT's done, done, done!  The graduation quilt is done.  And none to soon either.  I have a couple of days to relax.  I was afraid I'd be riding to graduation and sitting with the quilt on my lap, hand stitching the binding.  As it is, I was able to machine stitch the binding down and I'm very happy with the results.  Here's a little peek at the quilting design:
It was very tricky for me and took a longer to do.  But I'm happy with the results.  The pattern is called "Contempo".

Now, will I get the May UFO done for Connie's Game?????

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope everyone is having a great day, Happy Mother's Day!

This has been such a productive weekend.  I finished the backing for the graduation quilt, made the binding and all that's left is to get the zippers on so I can quilt it tomorrow!

Yesterday was quilt day and, as always, a wonderful day.  I pinned two quilts so I could quilt them at home with my Bernina and worked on another one that I had started a couple of years ago.  What happened with that one, I messed up the solid blocks and cut them too small.  So I had to cut down the pieced blocks so it would work.  Since I didn't want to leave my screw up for someone else, I took it home.  And there it sat in the closet.  That seems to be one way UFOs are born in my house.

Once I took the pieces out, it didn't take me long to figure out what to do and I fixed the problem. I just cut down the pieced blocks it an area where it wouldn't be notice.  It's just about all sewn together and it looks fine.

Today I worked in the garden.  I found an idea on Pinterest of using wine bottles to create a border.  So saved wine bottles for about a year and I built the border.

I left the labels on as they will be buried in the dirt.  Look at all the weeds!  Once we get the rose bush planted, I'll weed and mulch.  I'm even thinking a little Preen may be in order.

The row is done.  The can is where the rose bush is going to be planted.  I'll take another picture when I get the rose bush and mulch done.

The Year

I have the year all pieced as are all the letters for the name.  I'm working on piecing the backing tonight.  Progress, progress, progress.  It may be done in time or it may not.  Things are starting to back up around the house and I really need to do some cleaning.  Sigh

Letter Blocks

Took me most of Sunday to make the 14 blocks needed for the name on the back of the quilt.  Here's a sample of one of the blocks:

This block is a little skinnier than some of the others.  I drafted all the letters I needed on graph paper. (With the help of come co-workers.)  None of the blocks are bigger than 6.5 x 6.5.  So the half square triangles you see in this picture are 1.5 by 1.5.

I learned so much doing the Orca Bay Mystery quilt!  I never would have attempted so many HST without the Easy Angle ruler by Sharon Hultgren.  It makes it so easy!!  Check out this video.

Top Is Finished

The top for the graduation quilt is finished!

The picture is dark, as I had to stay inside.  It's rainy and dreary outside, a perfect day for sewing.

Now, onto the back!

Waiting

The first day of the month always excites me this year.  Waiting to find out what number is next on Connie's Game.  It's number 10, B & H's guestbook quilt.  It shouldn't take too long.  I learned more about setting blocks on point with "Easy Street", so I'm looking forward to applying that knowledge to this quilt.

I am making progress on the graduation quilt, just not working on it much in the evening as maybe I should, I'm catching up on laundry now that the new washer is here.   The next few days we are to have snow and cold weather again.  Ugh!  This past weekend working in the gardens and now the snow.  I bet we don't have peaches again this year. :-(  I'm hoping for the best.

It was still a little dark, but this is the sight I woke up to this morning.  A couple of inches of snow and slush.  Hope this is the last of the snow.  I'm so ready for Spring and Summer.
